How to Create and Maintain Good Eating Habits

Eating and our eating habits is something that has been honed ever since we were young. The food we prefer and the food we don’t. The tastes, types, consistencies – everything. These preferences have been developed by the food we used to eat to the ones we love eating now.

Food is a part of who we are.

You’re fortunate if you were taught as a child to eat healthy, well-balanced meals and not to indulge in sweets and junk food. But what if you’re one of the millions of us who love sugar and everything that includes it? You know you need to eat healthy but can’t resist its sugary embrace. Now you’re in a fight with your own mortality.

So you make a radical change; from a sweet tooth to a vegan; good, but not sustainable as making a complete 180 will not benefit you in the long run. Here are some things to know and do to help destroy bad habits and develop good ones.

Know your food. What goes in our body is responsible for making you healthy or sick. Knowing the basics will be your foundation in building great eating habits.

Calories.  A unit of energy that you will get from eating or drinking something. You don’t have to count the calories of everything but a general knowledge of your caloric intake is important if your goal is to lose weight. We believe that a holistic and happy diet is the one that you don’t count calories, you eat intuitively while being aware of what’s on your plate.

Macronutrients. These are nutrients that we need in large amounts like protein, carbohydrates, and fats. Meats, potatoes, and nuts are part of the myriad of food under this category.

Micronutrients. These are vitamins and minerals that are very important to support functions like bone growth, immune system, among others. Many people don’t know how crucial micronutrients are but they’re essential if you want to thrive in life and be your healthiest version.

Then,

Reflect. Try to recollect your thoughts and think about your eating habits. Think hard and separate the good from bad habits on a piece of paper. With your good and bad habits separated, you now have a better grasp and understanding on what you needed to do.

Time. We all want to take the easiest route to change, but most of the time it won’t be easy. Oftentimes, the roads that lead to change are rather hard and full of obstacles and frustrations. Habits take time to develop, a long time. Give yourself room to grow with what change you want to make with your eating habits. You may encounter setbacks, fail, or have a cheat day and that’s ok. What’s important is you’re still pushing through.

Focus. Making the change needs 100% of your focus and discipline. Cannabinoids like CBD and CBG can help you keep your focus on your goal.

Avoid processed food. Processed foods contain low nutritional value and empty calories. Plus, they are full of preservatives and artificial ingredients that are not good for your body. Eating too much of these foods can lead to obesity. We know they seem convenient, but you can find very easy and simple recipes to make with natural ingredients.

Exercise. You don’t need to enroll yourself in the fanciest gym and go 6 days a week. It can be as simple as 1h walk, stretching, or dancing. The key is to keep your body active and functional.

Be positive. This is what I think is the best way to be successful in changing and maintaining your healthy eating habits. Believing in yourself is the first step and being positive all the way can bring out the best in you!
